Tens of thousands of people headed to the track in Elmont Saturday for the 139th running of the Belmont Stakes.
Even though there will be no Triple Crown winner, and the Kentucky Derby winner is not racing, many spectators say they wouldn?t miss the action at Belmont. John Lee, of the New York Racing Association, says the chance of a Triple Crown winner would have doubled attendance at the track.
Michael Bonavia, of Massapequa Park, has been a regular at Belmont Park for more than 20 years and he says although he enjoys betting on the horses to win, he comes for the atmosphere.
Rags to Riches won the Belmont Stakes to become the first filly winner since 1905.
