Long Island residents are expected to flock to the racetrack in Elmont Saturday for the 139th running of the Belmont Stakes.
Horses had practice time on the mile and a half track Friday. A filly named Rags to Riches is expected to give the colts a run for the money. Jockey John Velasquez says the horse has a strong family history at the track. The father, grandfather and half-brother of Rags to Riches have all won the Belmont Stakes.
The last time a filly won the race was in 1905.
