County Executive Steve Bellone signed a new safety bill on Monday, providing a smartphone app called RAVE to 450 schools in Suffolk County.
RAVE has a panic button to alert police of an active shooter and other emergencies.
It also provides first responders with information, including floor plans and points of entry to allow for quicker response times.
Bellone says 15 school districts have used the app as part of a pilot program.
