Bellone: Hot spot testing site due to open in Coram Friday

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone gave his Wednesday COVID-19 update, where he provided new numbers and detailed new hotspot testing efforts.

BRIEFING NOTES:

- Property tax relief effort continues, thanks Rep. Lee Zeldin in helping work with Bellone on the effort, among others.
- 844 new COVID-19 cases, 29,588 total cases.
- Do not have updated death toll figures - stood at 888 yesterday.
- Hospitalizations go down by 57, 1,377 in total. Hospitalizations dip after they went back up Tuesday.
- 726 hospital beds available, 149 ICU beds open.
- 141 COVID-19 hospital discharges.
- Bellone starts off talking about 50th Earth Day, says annual Eco-Carnival will continue in digital format Saturday. Compliments colleagues, past county executives who have worked on environmental initiatives.
- County will plant 50 trees in honor of 50th Earth Day, will have plaques commemorating first responders during coronavirus pandemic.
- Bellone continues to remind people that police will not be distracted during pandemic, continuing to stop crime, including multiple burglaries.
- Bellone notes the work of assisted living facility employees, says it has been 'challenging' for workers, patients and families.
