(10/31/06) BELLMORE - About two dozen parents demanded answers from John F. Kennedy High School officials in Bellmore Tuesday after students discovered a threat of a Columbine-like attack.
Parents say they are furious because they learned about the threat from their kids, not district officials. Students say the message, which was found written on a desk, told of an attack on Wednesday, November 1. Nassau police began patrolling the parking lot and officials are randomly screening students' backpacks, but some parents still believe more should be done to guarantee safety.
One parent who approached administrators demanded a search of every locker for explosives or weapons. Another parent who also met with school officials says she walked away satisfied the school was doing all it could to prevent a disaster.
