Residents in Bayport are voicing their concerns over a proposal to build a large Quick Chek gas station and convenience store.

The New Jersey-based company is planning on building its first Long Island location on a two-acre lot on Montauk Highway and Snedecor Avenue.

Community members and business leaders are concerned about the financial impact Quick Chek will have on local delis and gas stations, in addition to the increased traffic in the area.

Quick Chek has told Islip town officials that they anticipate around 300 cars per hour during peak times, a number that residents are saying will be too high.

Quick Chek is reassuring the community by saying that it has always been a friendly neighbor wherever a location is built and will be able to employ around 50 people from the neighboring area if built.
