A 5-year-old Bay Shore girl is being hailed as a hero after saving her mother who was having a seizure.
Diavonnie Lofton and her 2-year-old cousin were the only people at home when the girl's mother, Charisse, started having a seizure in their apartment Saturday.
"She said she felt weird and then she turned her head and then she shaked," Diavonnie said.
The girl took matters into her own hands and dialed 911 like her mother taught her to do in an emergency. She gave the dispatcher her name, address and phone number and even met cops at the door.
"Her demeanor was calm. Calm enough that she said, 'Hold on, I have to go to the bathroom,'" dispatcher Warren Yates Jr. said. "She dropped the phone, but she did come back."
Diavonnie's mother was taken to Southside Hospital for observation and the girl says she can't wait to give her mom a hug when she gets home.
