An abandoned home in Bay Shore has been demolished following years of complaints.
The Town of Islip says the property located on East 3rd Avenue became an eyesore to the community and a hotbed for illegal activities.
Peggy Miller, a former resident, says the house had long been occupied by drug addicts and squatters.
That is why she says she has been advocating for it to be taken down for years, even though it was her childhood home.
"I lived here from elementary school until I was in my early 20s," Miller says. "It's sad to see it go in one way because of the family history, but we all have to move on."
It's unclear what will happen to the empty property. The town says it is up to the bank that owns the property to decide.
