The Huntington Historical Society is pushing back against a plan that would demolish the old fire station.
The old Huntington firehouse, built in 1911, is now a furniture store called Classic Galleries. The owner of the store wants to demolish the building and put up apartments and add a parking lot.
The Huntington Historical Society wants the building to be listed as a local historic landmark.
Toby Kissam, the historical society's president, says the building's facade is intact along with the second-story windows and a sign the fire department used in the early 20th century.
The owner of the building says there have been many changes to the building over the years.
The Huntington Town Board has until mid-October to decide on the historical landmark designation.
