A special basketball tournament took place Sunday in West Islip to help cover medical bills for a teen who was seriously injured while playing the game she loves.
In January 14-year-old Allie Ponzio, a guard on the junior varsity girls basketball team for St John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, fractured vertabrae in her neck while hustling for a ball.
Ponzio had surgery to fuse her neck and has been in physical therapy.
Her teammates put together Sunday's tournament to raise money for her mounting medical bills.
