A ballet program for children with special needs is making dreams come true for girls on Long Island who were turned away from other classes.
The program was created by teachers and physical therapists at the Children?s Learning Center, which is part of United Cerebral Palsy of Nassau County. After one of UCPNC?s young students was rejected from several dance studios, the teachers took matters into their own hands and took on a class of 12 girls.
"They get to leave their disabilities behind and celebrate their abilities while they are here," says UCPN physical therapist and ballet instructor Kelly Dinoia says.
