Southards Pond Park in Babylon reopened to the public Saturday for the first full day since human remains were found there earlier this week.
The remains were first discovered Thursday morning. During the subsequent investigation, police found two arms belonging to a man and multiple body parts belonging to a woman.
Authorities say the female remains included pieces of both legs, an arm and a severed head.
Suffolk County police say they concluded their investigation at the park on Friday evening. Members of the homicide squad are currently working to identify the remains.
Despite the park reopening, some residents remain wary about returning. David Valencia, of Babylon, told News 12 it will be some time before he and his family revisit the park.
“We go all the time, and now we are reflecting on everything,” he said.
