The Town of Babylon is considering easing a law that prohibits fowl in most yards.
Residents who own chickens petitioned town officials to get rid of a 1969 ordinance that requires chickens and any house to be separated by 100 feet.
They argue it limits the birds to large yards.
The town attorney is now drafting an amendment to the code allowing chickens in smaller yards.
John Di Leonardo, who runs an animal rescue group, says loosening the space restrictions will lead to abandonment of chickens and roosters.
A town spokesperson says they will present the amendment at a public hearing next month.
