A former Riverhead High School teacher and soccer coach pleaded guilty to disseminating child sexual abuse material and endangering the welfare of a child.
Suffolk County prosecutors say 38-year-old Ryan McCaffrey pretended to be a teenage boy while contacting underage girls on Snapchat.
According to prosecutors, he "quick added" hundreds of random users in an effort to reach underage girls, sending explicit images of himself and asking for nude photos from minors.
Investigators say McCaffrey also shared child sexual abuse material through the messaging app Kik and attempted to view and purchase videos and images depicting child sexual abuse.
On Nov. 4, 2024, the New York State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force got a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about child sexual abuse material being shared on Kik.
Investigators identified McCaffrey as a social studies teacher and junior varsity boys soccer coach at Riverhead High School. He resigned from teaching in February 2025 and was arrested three months later.
Prosecutors say McCaffrey has also been convicted of similar crimes in Bergen County, New Jersey.
He is expected to be sentenced to three years in prison next month.
