A 3-year-old boy with spinal muscular atrophy got the surprise of a lifetime Friday in the form of a trip to Disney.
Bear Bonner and his family are getting a weeklong, all-expenses-paid vacation to Walt Disney World, Sea World, Legoland and Universal Studios in Florida. They leave in April.
Bear has spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disease that affects voluntary muscle movement.
The Babylon Fire Department arrived on Bear's doorstep to bring him the good news. The department also made him an honorary member.
The trip was made possible by the Babylon-based foundation Baking Memories 4 Kids, which provides trips to children who are battling life-threatening illnesses. It raises money for the trips by baking thousands of chocolate chip cookies and selling them online.
Bear's birthday is on Dec. 18. He'll be celebrating it at the Cradle of Aviation.
