A house fire Saturday in Plainview left a 65-year-old woman dead.
Fire crews responded to the home on Audrey Avenue. Officials say the victim was found dead in an upstairs bedroom.
Her identity hasn't been released.
Neighbor James Rula told News 12 that he saw the smoke and tried to help.
"I jiggled the doorknob a little bit and realized it was open so I pushed it open a little bit and I stuck my head through the threshold of the doorway," says Rula. "I said, 'Is anybody home, is anybody home?' I didn't hear anybody, but I know at that point I don't go inside, so I just came back out. Within a couple of minutes the fire departments came."
Investigators are still looking into what caused the fire, but they say it doesn't appear to be criminal.
