Authorities are investigating what forced a homemade helicopter to make an emergency landing on an East End sod farm.
Police say pilot Erwin Rodger had a mechanical issue and made an emergency landing Sunday afternoon.
The helicopter landed on a sod farm on Vineyard Way in Aquebogue.
Witnesses say they heard a loud bang and once they got to the helicopter, they found the 71-year-old covered in gasoline.
Rodger was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation.
