2ds agoA 33-year-old Hempstead man has been formally charged for a DWI crash that killed one person in Uniondale.
Prosecutors say Elvin Maradiaga Ortiz was driving drunk in February when he crashed into a pole, causing the vehicle to flip over on Jerusalem Avenue.
He fled the scene after the crash and one of his passengers later died, according to authorities.
Ortiz is due back in court in July. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
