Police and U.S. Marshalls who thought they were entering a Patchogue home for a drug bust discovered that an entirely different crime was occurring inside?a woman had been kidnapped and was being held in the basement.
Authorities were planning on arresting 27-year-old Keston Forde on a 2006 felony drug warrant for criminal sale of a controlled substance. However, upon entering the house at 740 Scherger Ave. on Friday, a female?s screams for help led them to an entirely different discovery.
Police say the screams were coming from Forde?s 22-year-old ex-girlfriend. According to officials, Forde broke into his ex-girlfriend?s Patchogue home around 3:00 a.m. Friday, kidnapped her and brought her to the house on Scherger Avenue. He then beat her for nearly eight hours, authorities say.
Police say Forde and another man in the house, Delvin Howitt, tried to run away when U.S. Marshalls knocked down the door, but they were both captured a short time later. According to police, the timing of the U.S. Marshalls likely saved the victim?s life.
?It really was fortunate that they happened about the house at that time because we don't know what would've happened if she hadn't been found,? Detective Sgt. Bryan McMenemy says.
Police say the victim was treated for facial contusions and bruises at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. Forde is facing drug, burglary and unlawful imprisonment charges, and Howitt has been charged with criminal possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.
