A former Baltimore police officer and current NYPD recruit is behind bars Tuesday, accused of trying to assassinate his girlfriend.
Suffolk District Attorney Tom Spota says 22-year-old Kabeer Din, of Selden, met with an undercover detective posing as a hit man in a Multiplex Cinemas parking lot in Holtsville. According to Spota, Din agreed to pay $3,000 to have his 23-year-old girlfriend killed. Prosecutors say Din?s motive was revenge after the girlfriend refused to marry him.
Spota says Din was also concerned the girlfriend was going to call the NYPD and report some sort of past conduct that could affect Din?s probationary status. Spota would not elaborate on the conduct Din was worried about.
Din, who has been charged with second-degree conspiracy to commit murder, pleaded not guilty Tuesday. Bail was set at $150,000 cash or $1.5 million bond. Din is due back in court on August 4.
