Arvind Mahankali, of Bayside Hills in Queens, won the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland last night. He won by correctly spelling the word 'knaidel' - the Yiddish word for a type of dumpling.

Arvind Mahankali, of Bayside Hills in Queens, won the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland last night.

Mahankali, 13, says he is retiring from spelling bees.
