Investigators say a fire at a Coram strip mall Tuesday night may have been part of an arson plot involving Molotov cocktails.
Fire officials say the blaze broke out around 10 p.m. at the pizza parlor located in the strip mall on Route 112. They say they found six Molotov cocktails on the roof, placed near the air vents of each business. ?They were made out of 40-ounce Budweiser bottles with cotton rope wicker,? Second Assistant Coram Fire Chief Tim Timms says. ?They were filled with gasoline, which is highly flammable as everybody knows, and they were all the same.?
Investigators say the arsonists? intention was to drop the Molotov cocktails down each vent, but were apparently scared off, and only set off one before running away. Only the pizza parlor was suffered damage.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the arson division at 631-852-6024 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
