Two Long Island podcasters have been talking about the Gilgo Beach murders for years. Michael McManus, who lives in Massapequa Park, has a podcast called "Movies by McManus." He did an episode on "Lost Girls," a movie about the Gilgo Beach murders.
The 33-year-old lives just a couple of blocks away from Rex Heuermann, the accused killer of three of the Gilgo Beach victims.
"How can you not be fascinated, appalled, by that case, especially when it's in my backyard," McManus says. "A figure of speech but turns out it really was."
Alexis Linkletter is also a podcaster and a true-crime documentary producer who is originally from Smithtown.
During the pandemic she launched a podcast called "Unraveled: Long Island Serial Killer," dedicated mostly to cold cases like the Gilgo Beach murders.
She believes the case was neglected for years.
"My heart breaks for the families of the victims because they didn't need to be in so much pain for so long," Linkletter says.
She says she is impressed by the recent quick police work and hopes the victims' families can find peace.
Both McManus and Linkletter say they will be coming out with more podcast episodes regarding the Gilgo Beach investigation.
