It has been 10 years since a Long Island hero lost his life while fighting to protect our freedom.

Army Spc. Jacob Fletcher, of Bayshore, was killed in action while serving in Iraq.

Fletcher was just 11 days away from turning 29 years old when he was killed.

Fletcher's mother, Dorine Kennedy, founded the Jacob's Light Foundation. The foundation has sent 10,000 pounds of care packages to overseas troops every month for the past 10 years.
