Doctors and nurses at a Long Island hospital are being thanked for saving the life of a man who lives thousands of miles away.
Gagik Hovanessian, 30, of Armenia, was born with a congenital heart condition that affects one out of every 10,000 babies. He had heart surgery at Schneider Children's Hospital when he was 7. However, a reaction to the surgery caused by infection and scar tissue led to a severe seizure disorder.
Hovanessian recently returned to North Shore-LIJ for intricate brain surgery and has been seizure-free for the past two months.
Hovanessian and his family will return home Aug. 24.
