A Ronkonkoma Carvel employee says she stood her ground against an armed gunman who demanded cash Friday morning.
Esther Li says she was the only employee at the store located at 3311 Veterans Memorial Highway when a Hispanic man entered and displayed a hand gun around 11:25 a.m.
After a brief scuffle with the man that bloodied her hand, she fled the store. Simon Coticelli, who was opening up the pizzeria next door, noticed her and called police.
Neither Li nor Coticelli could make out the license plate of the armed suspect as he fled in his dark-colored pickup truck. Li says it may have been covered at the time.
Police say the armed man left without any proceeds. Surveillance cameras inside the store were not working at the time of the incident.
After speaking with authorities, Li finished her shift at Carvel.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged by authorities to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
