"Anything to do to help children, whether they're sick, underprivileged or they just need a helping hand," says Daboll. "I think it's really important and I think John's done a great job with this foundation."
The fundraiser, which was held at Mulcahy's in Wantagh, included a Q&A session with Daboll, auction and raffle items and signed memorabilia.
John Theissen started the nonprofit more than 30 years ago, to help sick and underprivileged children on Long Island after he got sick himself as a teenager.
"When I was hospitalized at 17 for a brain tumor, the kids that I met in the hospital, they were so much worse off than me and my mission every day is to help out kids like that."
The money raised will go toward a new family fun center that will be free for sick and underprivileged children and their families.
There's another fundraiser set for Thursday night at Mulcahy's.
