Anti-Semitic incidents in New York have nearly doubled in 2017, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
The organization reports that 267 incidents have occurred between Jan. 2017 and Sept. 2017. A total of 32 of those incidents have occurred on Long Island.
Leaders in the Jewish community are advising others not to be alarmed by the trend.
"Don't be intimidated, don't be afraid because that's what the true anti-Semite wants," said Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum, of Temple Israel in Lawrence.
Rabbi Rosenbaum says even though the numbers are higher, there is no reason to panic. He says it is a time for education and empathy.
