More than 200,000 people packed Jones Beach on Sunday for day two of the annual Bethpage Air Show.
By around noon, all of the parking fields at the beach were filled to capacity and were closed for the day. Newcomers were turned away, and parts of the Meadowbrook, Wantagh and Ocean parkways were closed because of the full house.
Saturday's chillier weather saw crowds of about 116,000 people, parks officials said. But the warmer temperatures on Sunday nearly doubled that, bringing droves of people to the sand.
Sunday's headliners included the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Army Golden Knights. The Long Island-based Geico Skytypers also wowed the crowds with their World War II-era planes cruising in formation.
Among the most excited in the crowd was Rob Reider, the Bethpage Air Show announcer. "My excitement is genuine, I don't fake anything," Reider told News 12. "It's such a good time to be out here and watch people do things with airplanes that really aren't supposed to be able to be done."
