The director of the Center for Science in Rockville Centre is raising money to help animals affected by the wildfires in California.
Ray Ann Havasy said it is her mission to help those who can't help themselves - and is now raising funds for the Pasadena Humane Society.
"Now they're rounding up these dogs wandering the streets. I just think it's so important that we show our humanitarian side,” said Havasy.
The Center for Science says it has about 40 rescued animals. It is hoping to do what it can for the animals in California, too.
"We've taken in over 800 animals since the fire started,” said Kevin McManus, with Pasadena Humane.
McManus says most of those animals came in with families who lost their homes and need a place for their pet to stay for a while, and they have crews out rescuing lost animals.
"We were seeing animals coming in with evidence of burns their paw pads were burned they had singed fur,” said McManus.
McManus says the humane society could use some help.
"The easiest and most direct way for us to help the animals is through a financial donation. Allows us to buy the specialty food that a tortoise might need,” said McManus.
The Center for Science will be sending the collected donations to Pasadena Humane on March 1.
"I'm hoping we can all contribute to help these animals,” said Havasy.
