Amityville School Board approves layoffs of 47 staff members

The district is blaming a $3.6 million deficit for the staffing cuts. It says the budget issues were caused, in part, by the increased costs of security and health insurance.

The Amityville School Board approved dozens of staff layoffs in the district.

A total of 47 personnel are being excessed, including 25 teachers, six teaching assistants, one custodian, two security personnel, six pupil personnel services faculty, five monitors and two administrators.

The district is blaming a $3.6 million deficit for the staffing cuts. It says the budget issues was caused, in part, by the increased costs of security and health insurance.

The district also says that it is looking for an independent company to do a financial audit.
