Riverhead High School senior Lorena Correa has created a local scholarship to help a graduating senior who needs financial assistance attend college.

The "Waves of Opportunity Scholarship" aims to assist graduating seniors at Riverhead High School who have demonstrated academic excellence, community involvement and a strong commitment to their future.

"A number of families in the Riverhead school district don't have a lot of money, so we need more local scholarships to be able to afford to go to college," explained Correa.

Correa's goal is to raise $10,000 for the scholarship through fundraising efforts.
