Amityville parents tell News 12 a Northwest Elementary School employee allegedly dressed as an ICE agent for the school’s Hero Day on Wednesday.
News 12 spoke with parents during Wednesday afternoon pickup and received several phone calls about the alleged incident.
Marquise Gordon, of Amityville, called the incident disgusting.
"That's utterly disgusting,” he said. “This is the world we're living in now?"

District officials said in part, "[The] District is aware of an allegation involving a district staff member who affixed an acronym to their clothing that was perceived by some members of the school community as offensive or inappropriate in the educational setting."
"We got kids that's just trying to get their education,” said Gordon. “How dare you show up to a school in that type of, and set that type of precedent, knowing what's going on in the world right now?"
Demographic data from U.S. News & World Reports shows the district has an over 58% Hispanic/Latino student body.
"People are already fearful as it is,” said Jackie Sauls, of Amityville. “There's no right in that."
The school district says that staff member was reassigned to a non-school setting pending a full review, and says district officials are investigating what happened.
The district’s full statement can be found here.
