Amityville man accused of exposing himself to 12-year-old girl
An Amityville man was arraigned Thursday after allegedly exposing himself to a 12-year-old girl in Copiague earlier this month.
According to court documents, Narciso Chavez, 51, allegedly said to the girl, "Mami, come over here" and then began fondling himself. A family member of the 12-year-old girl told News 12 that the girl was running an errand at the Home Depot on Bayview Avenue when the alleged incident occurred.
The girl and her mother filed a police report right after the alleged July 3 incident. A family member says the girl recognized Chavez was back at the Home Depot Wednesday and called police.
Chavez's daughter and a friend of Chavez were at his arraignment. They say Chavez, who has no criminal history, is a hardworking family man who goes to Bayview Avenue to look for work. They believe police have the wrong man.
Chavez was charged with public lewdness. His bail was set at $2,500.
