Mayor Zohran Mamdani doubled down on his opposition to the major military operation in Iran, as President Donald Trump laid out the United States’ objective.

"I may be a young mayor, but I am old enough to remember the devastating consequences of our country pursing a regime change in that very region not that many years ago," said Mamdani.

As the nation absorbs the impact of the strikes, reactions in New York City remain sharply divided.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the U.S. and Israel’s joint strikes in Iran, Trump said Iran ignored warnings to stop pursuing nuclear weapons.

"The regime's conventional ballistic missile program was growing rapidly and dramatically and this posed a very clear, colossal threat to American air forces stationed overseas," the president said.

Mamdani says while there are no credible threats to the city, the NYPD remains on high alert with increased security around sensitive locations including houses of worship.

"I know that what Americans want in this moment is peace. They want an answer to this affordability crisis, they do not want to see the bombing of cities, the killing of civilians, the opening up of yet another theater of war," the mayor said.
