An affordable and supportive housing complex has opened in Brooklyn, with plans to serve those who have aged out of foster care and those with developmental disabilities.

13h agoAn affordable and supportive housing complex has opened in Brooklyn, with plans to serve those who have aged out of foster care and those with developmental disabilities.
Affordable & Supportive Housing for All has opened in Brownsville, with help from the New York Foundling Organization.
The complex, named Vital Brookdale, aims to have the community’s most vulnerable residents co-living.
Patricia Jackson, who is a resident at the new complex and uses a wheelchair, says the apartment building has been everything she wanted and more.
“I walked in here, I was shocked,” said Jackson. “I was so happy, I cried though you know. I feel like I'm in luxury.”
The apartments are fully accessible, with low cabinets and easily accessible storage areas, as well as assist bars in the showers and spacious hallways.
New York Foundling says that in the summer of 2023, another similar affordable housing complex will be completed in Harlem. They are also helping build one in the Bronx.
