An 11-year-old boy was airlifted after being seriously injured when the car he was in was hit head-on by an alleged drunk driver in East Atlantic Beach yesterday evening, Nassau County police said.

Investigators said Job Giuliana, 30, was driving eastbound on Beech Street when he struck a car going west on the same road at the intersection of Scott Drive around 5:30 p.m.

"It's a dangerous corner here," East Atlantic Beach resident John Giammona said. "A lot of accidents have happened in the past."

Three people were in that second car, including the driver, a 52-year-old man, a 49-year-old female passenger and the child.

Nassau County police said Giuliana suffered a severe injury and that first responders had to apply a tourniquet to his left leg at the scene. The Long Beach Fire Department took him to the hospital, where police said they determined he was intoxicated.

The 11-year-old sustained severe body trauma and was airlifted with his mother, who had body pain, according to police and the Long Beach Fire Department.

"I remember it was about six something, it was dark and a helicopter flew right over our house," East Atlantic Beach resident Julia Giammona said. "It looked horrible."

The driver of the car that was struck had a cut to his head, was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

Nassau County police charged Giuliana was second-degree vehicular assault, second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree assault, driving while intoxicated and second-degree reckless endangerment.

“People travel at a high rate of speed," one East Atlantic Beach man told News 12. "50 to 60 miles an hour, the speed limit is 30, so speed is an issue here.”

Officials said he will be arraigned at First District Court when medically practical.
