A mother and her son were among four people seriously injured in a head-on collision in East Atlantic Beach on Wednesday evening.

The City of Long Beach Fire Department said it responded to the intersection of Beech Street and Scott Drive in front of the Atlantic Beach Club just after 5:30 p.m.

Video and pictures from the scene show significant damage to the two cars.

Fire officials said a mother and her son were airlifted and the two drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Officials did not have an update on their current conditions this morning.

The cause of the crash and what led up to it is still under investigation.
