The Academy of St. Joseph, Suffolk's only all-girls Roman Catholic high school, closed for good on Thursday after being open for 106 years.
Since the Brentwood school opened in 1903, originally as a boarding school, thousands of children grew up in its halls. School president Sister Eileen Kelly says closing the school is a sign of the times. ?It's been a very difficult situation for many years.?
Kelly adds that enrollment has dropped by almost two thirds in recent years, with only 300 students attending both the high school and grade school now.
The sisters of St. Joseph hope that students leave knowing two things: that they are loved by God and that they in turn can make a difference in the world.
