Actor Alec Baldwin joined concerned residents at a forum Friday night to discuss Indian Point's now-expired federal license.
Many attending the event, held at Rockland Community College in Suffern, called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to shut down Indian Point. The license for one of the facility's two nuclear reactors expired Sunday, making it the first reactor in the country to operate without the proper regulations.
Joseph Mangano, of the Radiation and Public Health Project, says the situation is similar to a doctor operating without a medical degree.
However, plant owner Entergy says Indian Point has had a safe record for years.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission makes all final licensing decisions.
