Airbnb pursues legal action against Brookhaven booking guest who held unauthorized party
Airbnb has announced it will pursue legal claims and damages against the booking guest who held an unauthorized party with upward of 400 people reportedly in attendance in Brookhaven.
The company says it notified the guest on Thursday of its intent to bring legal action, alleging violation of Airbnb's Community Standards and Terms of Service, nuisance, and that the guest booked the listing under false pretenses. Airbnb has banned the guest from its platform. The party was held on Nov. 29.
The announcement comes on the heels of the company banning all parties and events at listings rented through the Airbnb platform earlier this summer.
As a part of that announcement specifically, the company noted that it would consider steep consequences for hosts or guests who try to skirt its party rules – including "bans from our community and potential legal action."
The action against the Brookhaven guest is similar to previous legal action taken against booking guests in Sacramento, Cincinnati and Glendora, CA who threw unauthorized parties.
On Thursday, the company announced it will be prohibiting certain one-night reservations in entire home listings over New Year's Eve in North America, Western Europe, and Australia.
