An East Meadow nursing home is being forced to pay $8.6 million in penalties following years of what authorities say was "resident abuse and neglect."
Fulton Commons will now be controlled by an independent health care monitor after the attorney general investigated and found poor living conditions, traumatic injuries, missed medical treatments and sexual abuse.
The nursing home will also have an independent financial monitor after the owners took Medicaid and Medicare funds, and then paying family members for jobs they did not do.
No one at Fulton Commons commented on the settlement.
