Dozens of community and business leaders gathered in Midtown Thursday to unveil a report detailing the plight of black residents in the Bronx and the rest of the city.

The State of Black New York City 2007 was compiled through research by the Black Equity Alliance and New York Urban League. The report runs almost 200 pages and details issues among black city residents such as employment, housing and education.

Black Equity Alliance Chairperson Dr. Billy Jones says some of the report findings are shocking. He hopes the study will serve as a call to action to help blacks in America.

The report is modeled after the National Urban League's annual study to document the lives of black residents in an effort to influence public policy. This is the second State of Black New York report released since the first study in 2000.
