Time is running out for a plan to extend health care to sick Sept. 11 first responders.

On Sunday, advocates rallied near Ground Zero, calling on lawmakers to pass a full extension of the Zadroga Act before it's too late.

The Zadroga Act pays for medical monitoring and treatment for those who were sickened by toxic dust at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11 attacks.

First responders sickened with cancer and other illnesses due to the Sept. 11 attacks say they need the Zadroga Act to continue to pay for their medical treatments, and are urging Congress to extend the bill.

They joined advocates and politicians at the rally near Ground Zero today to urge Congress to extend the bill before adjourning for the holidays.

Parts of the bill are set to expire in October 2016.

Many supporters say the health care funds should be extended permanently for responders.
