An arrest was made this weekend at Adelphi University in Garden City for a reported sexual assault, according to the college.
An email went out to all students, staff and parents saying in part, "We want to inform you about an arrest made on our Garden City campus early this morning, April 17, for a reported sexual assault in Earle Hall."
No details were given about the person who was allegedly arrested by Garden City police, and the school did not provide any additional information on the suspect.
The Nassau County District Attorney's Office released a statement saying, "We are aware of the allegations and working with our partners in law enforcement."
Garden City police say the matter is under investigation.
News 12 followed up with the college for more details. It released a statement saying, "We cannot comment any further at this time."
Students on campus were disturbed by the alleged incident.
"Anything like that is just terrible to happen on campus," says David Frangiosa. "You go here to learn, so stuff like that happening is just terrible, and I hope the person assaulted is OK of course."
Adelphi also stated in its email that it is supporting the affected individual and protecting the campus community.
