Adelphi
University has announced a hybrid plan combining an in-person “grad walk”
experience with virtual versions of a traditional commencement ceremony for the
classes of 2020 and 2021.
"Adelphi University's
Commencement Committee and Executive Leadership are looking forward to
providing our 2020 and 2021 graduates a special experience to commemorate their
milestone achievement in such a unique year,” said Kaitlyn Woods, senior
associate director of Special Events and Engagement at Adelphi.
The Adelphi ‘grad
walk’ will be an opportunity for graduates to have their moment walking across
the stage.
Officials say
although it is not an official ceremony, students can invite two guests to
cheer them on, capture the moment in photos and video, and experience the
occasion in a meaningful way.
The ‘grad walk’
will be by appointment from April 26 to April 29 during Senior Week and after
finals beginning May 21 in the Ruth S. Harley University Center’s Thomas Dixon
Lovely Ballroom.
The university says
health and safety protocols will be observed, including completion of health
screening, social distancing, and mask-wearing, except the graduate during
photography onstage.
In addition,
Adelphi will conduct virtual commencement ceremonies by school or college on
Monday, May 24, for the Class of 2021 and Tuesday, May 25, for the Class of
2020.
The virtual events
will serve as the ceremony that formally recognizes each graduate and confers
their degree. Recordings will be posted online for families and the community
to view and share.
Adelphi’s campus
also will be open to graduates and their families who wish to take photos and
videos.
