Actor Billy Crystal was in his hometown of Long Beach today to show support for the city in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, and to announce a major donation.

Crystal says he and his celebrity friends, including Muhammad Ali, Steve Martin, Robert De Niro and Robin Williams, came together to raise $888,000 for the area. But he and his wife, Janice, didn't stop there.

"Janice and I thought, 'Well, $888,000 is a lot of money, but a million sounds a lot better,'" he said. So the Crystals donated another $112,000 of their own, bringing the total to $1 million.

"Don't spend it all in one place," Crystal quipped.

The donation was announced on a completed portion of the city's iconic boardwalk, much of which was completely washed away during the powerful storm last October.

Crystal says he's happy to see Long Beach coming back and hopes the money will help in the rebuilding process. "You never forget where you're from," he said.

Long Beach residents were ecstatic that the famous actor came home to help out.
