With less than a month until a final decision is made regarding the proposed Broadwater barge, environmental activists gathered in Huntington to voice their concerns about the project.
Dozens gathered for a forum at the Huntington Cinema Arts Centre to discuss their opposition to the plan and to watch a documentary criticizing Shell, the parent company of Broadwater Energy. The film accuses Shell of violating human rights in Africa in the 1990s.
Connecticut?s Gov. Jodi Rell (R) recently sent a letter to Gov. Eliot Spitzer urging him to stand with her against the Broadwater plan. The activists say they?re glad to have a high-level elected official on their side.
Broadwater Energy says it is confident Spitzer will take everything into consideration before he makes a decision on whether to approve the barge. Spitzer must make a decision by Feb. 12.
