Yankee fans will have to wait another day to watch potential history unfold as slugger Aaron Judge did not tie or break the American League record Saturday for the most home runs in a season.
Everyone at the game was looking forward to witness Judge hit that lucky No. 61 but it was still a win for Yankees fans as the team beat the Red Sox 7-5.
Fans packed into Yankee Stadium Saturday afternoon with the hope of potentially witnessing Judge’s 61st home run of the season, which would tie him with Roger Maris, fellow Yankee who set the American League record back in 1961.
Judge hit his 60th homerun of the season on Tuesday, a number that baseball Hall of Fame player Babe Ruth set in 1927. He needs one more home run to tie Maris and two more to break the all-time American League record in a single season.
Judge still has 12 more games left in the season to make history. The next one will be Sunday night, as the Yankees take on the Red Sox for the fourth and final game of the series. First pitch is set for 7:08 p.m.
As the Judge drama unfolds, the team has been finding its stride, with a magic number of 4 to clinch the AL East.

The MLB record is 73 by Barry Bonds. Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire also passed 61. All three played in the National League. Sosa, Bonds and McGwire have been accused of using performance enhancing drugs, so the Maris mark still carries a lot of weight with fans. Some consider it the "clean" record.
