Pain at the pump may force some families to hit the brakes on their summer plans.

AAA says the average price for a regular gallon of gas on Long Island just hit $4, up from $3.87 just one week ago.

The rise is attributed to unrest in Egypt, which has raised concerns about disruptions in shipments and refinery breakdowns in the U.S. and Canada.

Some analysts believe prices may rise another 10-20 cents per gallon in the next two weeks.

College student Matt McMahon, who is delivering pizza for the summer, says these gas prices make it hard for him to see a profit.

"My tips have to pay for the gas," McMahon says. "It has to be worth the drive to go to the delivery, how far it is. Sometimes it's just not worth the distance for the tip that I get."

Richard Allen, of Rosedale, Queens, says every penny counts as he watches gas prices rise.

"That's money I could put away for savings, I could do other things, more productive things," Allen says. "But yet I have to throw it in my car 'cause I have to get to work, and I gotta pay the bills."
