AAA says a record 43 million people will travel more than 50 miles over the holiday weekend.
The number is up 1 million from last year and tops the record first set in 2007.
According to the report, most of the travelers are driving, which was fueled by the lowest July 4 gas prices in a decade.
On Long Island, a gallon of regular gas is on average about $2.46.
The LIRR added 10 extra trains Friday to help people get home.
